Important Disclosures
Federal and state-required disclosures governing loan advertising, credit checks, representative examples, and borrower protections. Transparency is not just a nice-to-have — it's the law, and we take it seriously.
Loan-Matching Service Disclosure
Bear Loan is a loan-matching service, not a direct lender. We do not fund loans, set interest rates, or service loan accounts. Our role is to match qualified applicants with licensed lending partners based on the information you provide.
Approval, interest rates, loan terms, and funding decisions are determined solely by the lending partner. Bear Loan has no involvement in credit decisions.
Compensation Disclosure
Bear Loan is compensated by our lending partners when a successful match results in a funded loan. This compensation does NOT affect:
- The loan offers you receive
- Interest rates or fees charged by the lender
- Your approval or the terms you qualify for
Lenders set their own rates and terms independently based on their underwriting models. Our compensation is paid by the lender — never by you.
Truth in Lending Act (TILA) Disclosure
All loans offered through our partner network are subject to the Truth in Lending Act. Before you sign any loan agreement, you will receive a federally-required TILA disclosure showing:
- The Annual Percentage Rate (APR)
- The finance charge (total interest + fees)
- The amount financed
- The total of payments
- The payment schedule
- Any prepayment penalty or late payment policy
APRs across our network range from 5.99% to 35.99%, depending on your credit profile, state of residence, loan amount, and lender.
Representative Example
Credit Check Disclosure
Bear Loan performs a soft credit inquiry during pre-qualification, which does NOT affect your credit score.
If you proceed with a specific loan offer, the chosen lender will conduct a hard credit inquiry, which may temporarily lower your credit score by 5-10 points.
Soft inquiries are authorized under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and do not appear on credit reports visible to other lenders.
No Guarantee of Approval
Submission of an application does not guarantee approval. Pre-qualification is not a commitment to lend. All loan offers are subject to:
- Verification of information you provided
- The lender's independent underwriting criteria
- Applicable state and federal laws
- Availability of funds and lender capacity
Approved loan amounts, interest rates, and terms may differ from estimates shown during pre-qualification.
State-Specific Disclosures
Bear Loan operates in accordance with state-specific consumer lending laws:
- California: Loans made by licensed California Finance Lenders under the California Financing Law (CFL)
- Texas: Some lenders may be regulated by the Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner
- New York: Services subject to New York Banking Law and Department of Financial Services regulations
- Florida: Lending partners may be licensed consumer finance companies under Chapter 516, Florida Statutes
- Other states: Offers shown only from lenders licensed in your state of residence
Not all loan products are available in all states. State-specific restrictions may apply to minimum and maximum loan amounts, APRs, and fees. Some states may not permit certain types of consumer lending.
Advertising Disclosure
Promotional content on our website, including rates, payment examples, and "starting at" claims, represents the most favorable terms available in our network and may not reflect the specific offers you receive.
Your actual offer depends on your individual credit profile, income, loan amount, term length, state of residence, and each lender's underwriting criteria. Advertised rates typically require excellent credit (740+ FICO), autopay enrollment, and shorter loan terms.
Military Lending Act Disclosure
Federal law provides important protections to active-duty members of the Armed Forces and their dependents under the Military Lending Act (MLA).
Under the MLA, creditors generally cannot charge an APR above 36% on most consumer credit products extended to covered borrowers.
If you are a covered borrower (active-duty military or dependent), your lender will identify itself and make appropriate disclosures before loan origination, including an oral MLA disclosure available by calling the lender.
Equal Credit Opportunity Act Notice
The federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act prohibits creditors from discriminating against credit applicants on the basis of:
- Race, color, religion, or national origin
- Sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity
- Marital status
- Age (provided the applicant has the capacity to enter into a binding contract)
- Receipt of income from any public assistance program
- Good-faith exercise of any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act
The federal agency that administers compliance with this law is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), 1700 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20552.
